Patna: Sept. 15, 2007
State Bank of India (SBI), Patna, on Saturday, handed over a check of Rs. 1 crore to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar towards the Chief Minister's relief fund for flood victims in Bihar at a small function organized at Kumar's official residence at 1 Anne Marg.
SBI Chief General Manager D. K. Jain presented the check to the Chief Minister who thanked the bank saying he would ensure every single penny of the donation went towards the rehabilitation of the flood victims in Bihar while complete transparency was maintained in the record-keeping.
While the state awaits help from the Center despite tall promises made by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi during their survey of the flood districts in Bihar few weeks ago, help from private groups and individuals have been coming in all sizes.
On Thursday, Kumar sent off livestock feed, courtesy Bihar Industries Association, for flood-hit areas in the state. Earlier, this month, 33 tons of livestock were dispatched in the flood-affected districts courtesy Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal.
Several other private groups including the Bihar Foundation in UK have also collected funds for more than 3 crore flood victims in the state.
