Vaishali DM, SP Transferred; Two Officials Fired

Patna: Sept. 16, 2007

Outraged by the latest development in the mob lynching case in Vaishali district, the Nitish government, on Sunday, ordered transfer of District Magistrate Lallan Singh and Superintendent of Police (SP) Anupama Nilekar while sacking the Vaishali district Welfare Officer and the police station in-charge of Vaishali and Dhelphorwa.

The move came just hours after the administration learnt that the bodies of the ten men from Nat community who were earlier lynched by a mob in Dhelphorwa village after being mistaken for being thieves, were not given proper cremation as ordered by the administration and were dumped in the nearby river instead.

Singh and Nilekar were replaced by Pratima S. Verma and Parasnath respectively, Home Secretary Afzal Amanullah said on Sunday.

"Vaishali DM and the Superintendent of Police (SP) completely failed in performing their duties and violated every single rule in the police manual regarding disposing off the bodies of a victim in a proper manner," Amanullah said following a high-level meeting at the Chief Minister's house on Sunday evening.
