Shivanand Tiwari Continues Attack against RJD Chief

Patna: Sept. 17, 2007

Janata Dal (U) national general secretary Shivanand Tiwari on Monday said the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav had ceased to be the de facto leader of the backwards which was evident by his latest move to woo the upper caste voters.

"The fact that he is now desperate to win the support of the upper caste people who he had ignored and mocked for as long as he had been in politics clearly indicates that he has lost the support of his vote base consisting of dalits and backwards that he had monopolized for years," Tiwari said.

"By proposing reservation for upper caste people, the Railway Minister has given up on the backwards that earlier formed the core group of his vote base," he said.

Taking a dig at Yadav's recent statement that he was 'the biggest devotee of Lord Ram', Tiwari said that perhaps it was time for him to join hands with Praveen Togadia and Ashok Singhal, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leaders.

The JD-U leader also insisted Yadav had lost the support of Muslims in Bihar who recently burnt the effigies of the Railway Minister accusing him of using and abusing them for garnering votes.

"Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has done more for the Muslims in less than two years than Lalu could do during his entire reign of 15 years," Tiwari said.
