Nine Get Life Terms in Aurangabad Massacre

A District and Session judge in Aurangabad on Thursday gave life imprisonments to nine accused in the June 2000 carnage at Mianpur in which alleged members of Ranvir Sena, a private army of upper caste landlords, killed 33 persons, including many women and children, while seriously injuring at least 20 others.
Krishna Kant Tripathi, the Aurangabad judge, while acquitting two accused in the lack of adequate evidences, sent nine others to prison for life while also ordering the convicts to pay Rs. 5,000 in fines.
While Anil Sharma and Prabhanjan Sharma walked out of the court free men, Laxmi Sharma, Nand Kumar Sharma, Pramod Sharma, Ramnath Sharma, Gopal Sharma, Ramjanam Sharma, Rajendra Sharma, Avinash Sharma, and Brijmohan Sharma were sent to life imprisonment on charges of criminal conspiracy, murders, attempted murders, and possession of illegal arms.
In the massacre that was carried out on the night of June 16, 2000, 7 men, 18 women, and 8 children were dragged out of their homes and brutally killed.
The prosecution team was consisted of Sabir Khan, Arif Khan and Javed Khan while the defendants in the case were represented by Anup Kumar Singh Ranvijay Singh, Ashok Kumar Singh, Virendra Dubey, and K. B. Prasad Singh.
