In a shocking incident, four gunmen armed with explosives on Thursday, opened fire and exploded crude bombs outside the Civil Court in Patna killing an under-trial prisoner and injuring three others including two lawyers present in the court.
The crime occurred in broad daylight when the prisoners were being brought to the court from Beur Jail to be presented before a judge.
Harivansh Rai, a.k.a. Harivansh Gope, who was facing trial in three separate murder cases, was shot and killed as he stepped out of the prison van before being produced at the Civil Court, reports said.
The criminals then lobbed several bombs in which three lawyers identified as Sudhir Kumar and Parshuram Singh, and another under-trial prisoner Madan Paswan were critically injured.
All four were rushed to the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) where they are listed in serious conditions.
Security has been tightened throughout the city and massive raids have been organized to nab the criminal's responsible for today's incident, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kundan Krishnan said.
