World Bank Report Encouraging for Bihar

Patna: Sept. 20, 2007

In what should be music to all Bihar lovers, the World Bank, in a report released on Thursday, gave high marks to the Nitish-led NDA government in the state for taking steps that are "certain to put Bihar at par with other developed states in the nation".

"The wheel of development is rotating in Bihar under the Nitish government and if this continued, Bihar would soon be in the same league as other developed states in India," Bihar Planning Board Deputy Chairman N. K. Singh said.

Be it tackling of flood in Bihar or trying to reduce poverty in the state, the government has given a new direction to the state, the report said.

On one hand, the government, by introducing the single window system, is trying to attract investment in the state; on the other, it has taken several measures to recover from the revenue losses. These moves have already started to show positive results in the state and at this rate it would not be too long when its Gross Domestic Product would go up from 4.5 to 8.5, the report said.
