Lawyers' strike in Patna. Photo by Shashi UttamLawyers across the state on Friday boycotted High Court and Civil Courts to protest against assault by unidentified criminals at Patna Civil Court premises on Thursday that left one under-trial prisoner dead and three injured including two Patna advocates.

The strike was called by the Bihar State Bar Council (BSBC) on Thursday following an emergency meeting of its members just hours after bomb explosions at Patna Civil Court that left triple murder accused Harivansh Rai dead and four other persons including another prisoner and three lawyers injured.

The BSBC president Rajendra Prasad Singh said the boycott was total and demanded tighter security at all court premises to avoid any further violent incident like the one on Thursday.

At a press conference in Patna, the representative of the Bar Council of India Suraj Narayan Prasad Sinha said a decision to continue or not continue the strike would be taken by the Council on Sunday. He also demanded a compensation of Rs. 1 lakh each to all three lawyers who were injured in yesterday's attack.

Sinha also condemned the doctors at the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) for not providing medical care to the injured lawyers without first extracting money from them.
