Security at Civil Court, PMCH Tightened
Patna: Sept. 21, 2007
Security at Patna Civil Court were beefed up on Friday in the wake of the bomb explosions at the court premises that left one under-trial prisoner dead and three injured including two Patna advocates leading to a lawyers' strike disrupting all normal proceedings throughout the state.
People, with the exceptions of judges and lawyers, are being checked with metal detectors and two senior police officials and about half a dozen armed policemen have been deployed at both entrances of the Civil Court, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kundan Krishnan said at a meeting of the lawyers in Patna on Friday.
In the event of any untoward incident, the main gate of the court would be shut down to prevent criminals from entering the main building.
Expressing their satisfaction with the security arrangement, public defender Jai Prakash Singh said the lawyers' strike would be lifted from Saturday.
The two injured lawyers were also presented a check of Rs. 5,000 each by the Bar Council of India for their medical treatment.
Security at the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) were also heightened with the deployment of para-military personnel and 30 Bihar Military Police jawans resulting in the return of the junior doctors who had stayed away from their duties following allegations of abuse by an angry mob during the treatment of two lawyers injured in the explosions.
