Anti-Encroachment Drive Continues; 300 Hutments Removed

Patna: Sept. 23, 2007

The district administration in conjunction with the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Sunday, amidst very tight security, removed more than 300 illegal establishments near the B. N. Collegiate School in the ongoing crackdown on encroachment that continues to mushroom despite several such drives in the state capital.

With two bulldozers, an anti-riot van, a fire truck, and dozens of PMC workers, two judicial magistrates, and the Gandhi Maidan police station in-charge, the demolition team led by PMC official B. N. Singh arrived at the school area and removed illegal huts to make room for the road.

Though some people tried to raise little protest, the presence of large number of police officials kept them contained.

"The occupants of these hutments were given early notification to remove their establishments or else the administration would forcibly remove them," officials said.
