Modi, Choubey, Kick off Clean Patna Campaign
Patna: Sept. 25, 2007
Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, while speaking at the inaugural of 'Apna Patna, Sundar Patna' campaign at Patna Planetarium on Tuesday, said that while the state government was doing everything to beautify the state capital, it could not accomplish the goal of a cleaner Patna without the help of its residents.
"There is a pressing need for the development of civic sense among the residents of Patna. In fact, these things should be taught at the early level of education so our children cultivate good habits and help the city clean," said Modi.
The Deputy Chief Minister also suggested handing over Patna's beautification job to private companies saying that was the only way to change the face of the state capital in a speedy manner without further burdening the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC).
Urban Development Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey, in his inaugural speech, said the fact that this campaign was seeking involvement of children in the program, made it extra special and vowed to follow up on any suggestion that contributed towards overall beautification of Patna.
Students from 43 schools participated in today's symposium. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was also scheduled to be present at the function but could not make it due to some previous engagement, officials said.
