Congress an Old Hand in Violating Constitution; Say BJP Leaders
Patna: Sept. 26, 2007
Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, while addressing at a seminar on 'Abuse of Constitution by the UPA Government' in Patna on Wednesday, said if there was a single political party that had violated the Indian Constitution more than any other party in the nation, Congress would run away with the title.
"Corruption in politics is the gift of Congress to the nation. While in a democracy it is imperative to follow the Constitution to the letter, the UPA government has show utter disregard for it on multiple occasions for sheer political gains," the Deputy Chief Minister and Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader said.
Giving the example of Shibu Soren in Jharkhand, Supreme Court lawyer Pinki Anand said that even the highest court of the nation commented that making Soren the Chief Minister of Jharkhand was a blatant abuse of power and mockery of the Indian Constitution.
BJP state president Radha Mohan Singh said people only had to look at the Emergency of the '70s imposed by the then Indira Gandhi government to see how citizens' rights were trampled and the Constitution butchered. "Congress is the most experienced party when it comes to circumventing the Constitution," he said.
