Plea for Warrants against Lynching Accused Rejected
Patna: Sept. 27, 2007
A Hajipur court, on Thursday, turned down the CID's plea for issuing non-bailable warrants against the ten men accused of lynching 10 alleged thieves in Vaishali district, on the ground of insufficient evidence against them.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Anil Kumar Singh, while rejecting the plea, asked the investigating agency to come up with more concrete evidences that linked the alleged perpetrators to the crime and the crime scene.
As reported before, the CID officials in Patna last Tuesday claimed to have identified ten people in the September 13 lynching case in Vaishali district that left ten wandering gypsies dead and one seriously injured.
The people who were named as accused by the CID included Nawal Kishore Rai, Raj Kishore Rai, Ram Ishwar Singh, Ganesh Rai, Bhagwat Rai, Rama Rai, Parmanand Rai, Shatrughan Singh, Prem Kumar Singh, and Ranjit Rai.
Warrants were needed against all ten men for the CID to put them in a police line up for positive identifications by the sole survivor in the lynching case.
