Patna: Sept. 27, 2007

Students protest against PU VC. Photo by Shashi UttamMembers of various students' unions in Patna on Thursday took out a rally against the suspension of eight Patna University students and torched the effigy of Patna University Vice Chancellor Y. C. Simadri outside the university office while demanding the reinstatements of the expelled students.

Accusing the Vice Chancellor of acting in an autocratic manner, the students' leaders demanded holding of university students' union elections at the earliest in the absence of which they had no voice in the functioning of the university.

Demanding reinstatements of the eight students, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) student wing president Swadesh Kumar said the students were expelled only because they had opposed the university's decision to put a stop on admissions in the B.Ed course on the basis of arts and sports.
