Photo by Shashi UttamThe state government, on Friday, took a giant step in the field of hydro-electric power generation in the state by reaching an agreement with the nation's leading hydro-electric engineering company WAPCOS to develop the Dagmara hydel project in the Kosi region with a total capacity of producing 126 MW electricity once completed.

Dagmara is located about 30 kilometers at the foothill of Kosi Barrage and is capable of producing 46 MW of power, state Energy Minister Vijendra Yadav who called the agreement 'historic from Bihar's perspective', said after the meeting.

The agreement was signed by the chief engineer of the Bihar Hydro-electric Power Corporation Jawahar Lal and the WAPCOS chief engineer M. M. Verma.

A detailed project report is to be submitted by the WAPCOS within a year and the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2010, Yadav said.
