Torrential rain in Patna for last couple of days has turned into a nightmare for the people living here as water-logging has inundated just about all areas in the city with pedestrians, vehicle owners literally wading in waist-deep water to go from point A to point B.
On Friday, the five-hour long non-stop rain was so hard that by the time the sky cleared, the entire city was floating in water bringing with it the now-legendary miseries that Patna people are so accustomed to, thanks to poor infrastructure and antiquated drainage system.
With open manholes on many streets and underground drainage coming to a grinding halt, vehicles, small and big, were seen stuck in them while offices and private businesses witnessed sparse attendance even as the schools and colleges remained closed at district authorities directives.
In areas like Kadam Kuan, Rajendra Nagar, Kankarbagh, Chiraiyantand Bridge, Lalji Tola, Dariyapur Gola, Sri Krishna Puri, Pataliputra Colony, Gardanibagh, Jakkanpur, and Kidwai Puri, water entered into many houses forcing thousands of occupants to move to higher levels.
Situation at Patna Junction was no better either. All the tracks were submerged in knee-deep water causing inordinate delay in normal train traffic.
The rain also disrupted the railway signaling system adding further to the existing woes.
