CM Orders Immediate Relief from Water-logging

Facing widespread criticism from those who voted him into power nearly two years ago, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, on Sunday, sent out a high-level team of top officials, including the Chief Secretary, to visit water-logged areas in Patna and directed them to ensure accumulated rain water was pumped out by deploying all available sources into it.
The team comprising the Chief Secretary A. K. Chowdhary, Road Construction department secretary Rajkumar Singh, Divisional Commissioner Ravindra Pawar, and Patna District Magistrate Dr. B. Rajendra visited several areas in Patna including Kankarbagh, Jogipur, Rajendra Nagar, Saidpur and surveyed the area where rain water remains accumulated for last five days.
The Chief Minister ordered replacement or repair of defective pump houses, installation of two new pumps and usage of fire-brigade trucks to pump out all water in areas still affected by severe water-logging caused by incessant rain in last few days.
"We are hopeful to get rid of the water in next couple of days after which life should come back to normal," Chowdhary said.
Kumar also directed the officials to spray DDT in all areas where water had been stagnant for several days.
Meanwhile, angry residents in Kankarbagh burnt the effigies of Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi and Urban Development Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey in protest of water accumulation in their areas.
