Gaya-Patna Passenger Train Derails; Fails to Stop
Patna: Sept. 30, 2007
Several passengers were injured when a Gaya-Patna passenger train, after being derailed just few kilometers away from Patna Junction, failed to stop sending the passengers in a state of panic as many tried to jump off the moving train in anticipation of a major disaster.
The incident occurred on Sunday morning near Sipara gate when the third bogey in the train suddenly jumped off the track. However, instead of coming to a stop, the train continued its journey towards Patna Junction forcing many passengers to jump off the moving train.
Eventually the train stopped and after a delay of nearly three hours, engineers were able to put the train back on the train after which it was allowed to proceed to Patna.
East-Central Railways District Railway Manager B.D. Garg, after surveying the area, ordered formation of a four-member committee to investigate the cause of derailment and why the driver of the train failed to bring the train to a stop.
No serious injury was reported.
