Leaders Exchange Accusations over Rising Prices
Patna: April 1, 2008
Opposition leaders' attempt to blame the NDA government for skyrocketing prices of essential goods in Bihar was met with strong reaction by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar who retorted by asking them to shut up and stop uttering nonsense.
"You are unnecessary trying to fan the fire. Just wait till the next elections then you will know who is responsible for the rising prices," a clearly annoyed Chief Minister said.
Things got heated at the state Assembly just as opposition leaders raised the issue of ever-rising prices of items that matter most to ordinary people. Blaming the Nitish government, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders demanded relief in taxes and other fees to ease some of the pains currently felt by the people of Bihar.
This was vehemently protested by the NDA leaders who said the opposition's anger was misplaced and they would have been better served had they been protesting against the UPA government at the Center that was solely responsible for the current price trend.
As the opposition leaders continued to raise the volume of their protest, the Chief Minister asked them to be quiet and stop making nonsensical charges against the NDA government in Bihar when they knew quite well that it was the Congress-led UPA government that deserved the blames.
House Speaker Uday Narayan Chowdhary, at the behest of the Chief Minister, set aside two hours exclusively to discuss the issue on the Tuesday session of the state Assembly which was acceptable to the opposition leaders.
