Shatrughan Sinha Suggests Herbal Farming instead of Tobacco

Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Health Minister Shatrughan Sinha in Patna on Friday said that by 2020, 13% of total deaths in India would be directly related with mouth and lung cancer caused by prolonged smoking and use of other tobacco products.
The former Hindi film star was speaking at a seminar on the effects of tobacco products organized by the Mahavir Cancer Institute at Patna's IMA Hall.
"There is an urgent need to spread the awareness about the deadly effects of tobacco products in the nation, particularly in rural areas where most people still remain ignorant to the ill effects of tobacco," Sinha said.
The BJP leader also stressed the need for tobacco growers to turn their attention to herbal products the demand for which has been growing exponentially throughout the world.
The event was co-sponsored by Rotary International and Lions Club of Patna and was attended by a number of health professionals including Dr. Jitendra Kumar Singh, Dr. Sanjay Sharma of Mumbai, Dr. M. K. Mahajan of Ludhiana, Dr. Ravi Deo of Bangalore, Rotary Governor Dr. C. Khandelwal, and Lions Governor Prakash Nanda.
The two-day event will also feature other prominent doctors including Dr. Alok Thakkar, Dr. A. K. Anand, Dr. V. J. Vyas, Dr. D. M. Parikh, and Dr. Ashok Mehta.
