GRP Jawan Arrested on Attempted Robbery, Molestation Charges
Patna: April 6, 2008
People at Patna Junction on Sunday caught hold of a Government Railway Police (GRP) jawan and beat him up after he allegedly tried to reach into the blouse of a middle-aged woman passenger in an attempt to grab her purse.
As reported, Bikrama Kumar Jha of Patna Junction police station tried to snatch the purse of Siddhanti Devi, a native of Nalanda district who arrived at Patna Junction from New Delhi just minutes before attempting to board the Dadar-Guwahati Express to go to Bakhtiarpur on Platform Number 2.
When the woman and her son Santosh Kumar, 18, objected to Jha's vulgar advancement, the policeman and his colleague Sudarshan Jha assaulted both mother and son causing injuries to them.
Hearing the commotion, the people on the platform caught hold of Bikrama Jha and gave him a good thrashing before handing him over to the railway police. His partner Sudarshan Jha, however, managed to escape.
Jha, while denying the allegations, said he was in fact trying to help the woman who appeared to be falling in her rush to board the train.
FIRs have been launched by both parties involved in the case.
