Kidney Removal Allegations Proven Untrue
Patna: April 7, 2008
Senior doctors and administrators at the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) on Monday took a collective sigh of relief after an ultra-sound examination of a 35-year old man from Sitamarhi revealed that both of his kidneys were intact and not removed as he had told the Chief Minister at his Janata Durbar on Monday.
Confirming the allegations to be totally false, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amit Kumar on late Monday night said the kidneys of Pukar Mukhia of Bharathua village in Sitamarhi district were not removed as revealed in a medical examination earlier ordered by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
As reported in the media, Mukhia, during the Chief Minister's Janata Durbar on Monday, told Nitish Kumar that he had to be admitted in the PMCH about 5 months ago after he broke some bone in his body. After the operation, he noticed some wounds below his arms. When he asked the doctors about the wound, he was hold that he had also broken some bones below his arms and the doctors had performed operation in that area.
Mukhia, however, started to feel some pain in that region and saw another doctor in Sitamarhi who told him that his kidneys were missing.
The Chief Minister discussed the matter with the Health Secretary and directed the SSP and Patna District Magistrate to investigate the matter and file an FIR with the Pirbahore police.
"The tests have revealed that the complainant's kidneys are intact. However, we continue to investigate the case," the SSP said.
