Four Students Suspended in Teacher Assault Case

Patna: April 9, 2008

Four students who were involved in roughing up Patna Science College physics professor Dr. Amarendra Narayan in his chamber on Tuesday were kicked out of the university even as the police prepared to make arrests of the offending students after filing an FIR against them on Wednesday.

The news of suspension of the four students warded off the strike that the teachers had threatened to launch following the assault on Prof. Narayan while also ensuring the ongoing graduate exams were held as per the schedule.

The decision was taken at a meeting of top university officials presided over by Patna University Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. S. I. Ehsan.

Students expelled from the university were identified as Gautam Kumar, Kanhaiya Kumar, Kumar Gaurav, and Deepak Kumar.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amit Kumar said attempts were being made to arrest the four students who have apparently gone into hiding soon after the news of teacher's manhandling surfaced on late Tuesday night. He also said security arrangements at all test centers had been heightened to avoid such attacks on university officials.

PU registrar Vibhash Kumar Yadav, Patna Science College principal Dr. S. N. Guha, Dean Dr. Ejaz Ali Arshad, Proctor Dr. Bhagwan Prasad Singh, Exam Control Prof. Surendra Snigdh, Patna University Teachers' Association (PUTA) president Dr. U. K.
