Mystery Shrouds Retired IAS Official's Death
Patna: April 11, 2008
The Buddha Colony police in Patna on Friday took possession of the body of 75-year old retired IAS officer Vidyanand Mishra after reports of foul play spread in the area with neighbors blaming his son and his servant for Mishra's death.
An autopsy on Mishra's body reportedly revealed a mark on his neck indicating possible strangulation and also an empty syringe that could have been used to knock the ailing retired IAS officer out prior to his murder, officials said adding a full police investigation and the coroner's report would be able to shed some light in the case.
As reported, Mishra lived in a flat on Kavi Raman Path with his 26-year old care-taker Kameshwar. He had been estranged from both of his sons and daughter-in-law for last few years ago. While the elder son Rohit Mishra lived in Mumbai, his younger son Rahul Mishra lived on the upper floor of the same flat with his wife.
Mishra was a 1972 batch IAS officer who retired in 1991 as secretary in the sugarcane department.
Rahul Mishra told the police that when his father did not wake up in the morning, family members broke open the door and found him unconscious. He was rushed to a clinic in Kankarbagh where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The police is looking into the death from various angles, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amit Kumar said adding both his son and the servant were in police custody for interrogation.
