Patna: April 12, 2008
All in all a great week for the Biharis!
First, a Patna student earns a place in the National Society of High School Scholars, USA; then the Dutch government honors Bhojpuri film star Manoj Tiwari by issuing a stamp on him, and now an IIT'ian from Bihar beats out hundreds of other contestants and gets selected for the coveted Goldman Sachs Global Leaders Program in recognition of his excellent academic achievement.
Divyanshu Jha, a second year computer science student at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur, was honored for his academic excellence, leadership, and communication skills by the Goldman Sachs Foundation and Institute of International Education (IIE). The award includes a one-time scholarship of $3,000 and a ticket to a week-long meeting of Global Leadership Institute in New York to be held between July 12 and18 later this year.
A product of Don Bosco Academy and St. Michael's High School in Patna, Jha stood 10th in the rigorous IIT entrance exams and earned India a bronze medal in the International Physics Olympiad held in Singapore in 2006.
Started in 2001, the Goldman Sachs Global Leaders Program (GSGLP) is conducted in partnership with hundreds of educational institutes spread across over 20 countries.
