NDA Ministers asked to Resign
Patna: April 12, 2008
Just days before the first expansion of the NDA ministry since coming into power two and a half years ago, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday asked his ministers to turn in their resignations and brace for a massive change indicating some ministers who failed to live up to the expectations may not be returning to the Cabinet anytime soon or even for a long time.
While the Chief Minister himself would accept the resignations of ministers belonging to the Janata Dal (U), Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi would be responsible for accepting ministers from the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP).
The resignation formalities are expected to be completed by the end of Sunday, sources said.
The announcement of the new Cabinet is said to be made following the conclusion of 'Kharmas', a period considered by many to be inauspicious for any new project.
Urban Development Minister and Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ashwini Kumar Choubey was the first one to submit his resignation when he handed over his letter to Modi at around 10:00 pm on Saturday.
The news of forced resignation has sent a shockwave among many ministers who are now concerned about their own political fate and their ministries. With the Chief Minister keeping a tight lip on his plans, a sense of queasiness is only mounting by the passing of each hour, some ministers admitted.
