Hundreds of thousands of people in Patna on Monday celebrated Ramnavami, the birth of Lord Ram, by visiting Ram and Hanuman temples in the city while also taking out religious processions to mark the ceremony.
According to the Station Road Mahavir Temple officials, more than 10 lakh people of all ages visited the temple and offered prayers to Lord Hanuman and purchased more than 9,000 kilograms of laddus to mark Ramnavami.
Expecting larger than ever crowd, the Mahavir Temple management board opened the temple doors at 2:00 am to accommodate all the devotees. With security guards in place and volunteers showing way to the visitors, the entire process remained pleasantly orderly despite large number of people gathered there.
With tents to ward off scorching heat and facilities for drinking water, the devotees had no problem standing in the line for hours to gain entry into the temple.
A number of processions by private organizations to mark Ramnavami also took place throughout the day bringing the traffic to a near halt.
Featuring elephants and horses, the procession marched through the streets of Patna amidst chanting of religious hymns.
Meanwhile, thousands of people took dips in the Ganges to mark 'Satuani' that also fell on Monday.
