JD-U Presses for UPA Resignation
Patna: April 15, 2008
Janata Dal (U) state president Rajiv Ranjan Singh, a.k.a. Lallan Singh on Tuesday asked for the resignation of the Congress-led UPA government at the Center for failing to check soaring prices of essential items saying the Center wrongly shifted its focus from agriculture and put all of its egg in one basket, namely industries, resulting in the high prices of food items.
"During the NDA rule, there was a surplus of food-grains and the government was struggling to find places to store them. This situation, however, changed under the UPA government when the government had to export second-rate wheat worth over Rs. 6,000 crore from foreign nations," Singh said at a press conference following meeting of the party members.
Taking direct aim at the Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, Singh said that their efforts to shift blames for rising prices on the states was pathetic and without any merit.
"The accusation that the states are responsible for rising prices is nothing short of pathetic and shows the desperation of the UPA government," the JD-U leader said adding the NDA was ready to take the UPA in the next Lok Sabha elections.
