Patna: April 16, 2008

Photo by Shashi UttamThe Pirbahore police in Patna on Wednesday raided an electronic shop on Gola Road in Bakerganj and confiscated thousands of pirated CDs and DVDs, copying machines and blank CD and DVD disks to the tune of over Rs. 12 lakh while also arresting the shop owner identified only as Raju.

Acting on credible tips, Pirbahore police station in-charge Nissar Ahmed led the raid on the shop and was shocked to see the number of fake CDs stored within it.

Such raids have taken place in the same electronic market a number of times in the past but that has not deterred the shop-owners from engaging in such illegal activities.

The raid, however, has left other shop-owners in the region shell-shocked and is expected to have at least a short term impact in the market.
