Minister 'Shocked' by Poor Road Conditions in Patna

Patna: April 18, 2008

Road Construction Minister Prem Kumar, first time since taking over charges from Nand Kishore Yadav last week, drove through the streets of Patna, as if for the first time in his life, and expressed his dissatisfaction over the incomplete, ongoing projects while rebuking engineers and project managers for their 'incompetence'.

Accompanied by senior engineers, Kumar started his 'inspection' tour from Kargil Chowk Gandhi Maidan at 7:30 am. Stopping at Ashok Rajpath and directing his chief engineer to 'do this here, and do that there', the Road Construction Minister arrived at Saidpur where he criticized the slow progress in road widening project.

In Kankarbagh, he appeared to be surprised by the conditions of roads possibly because it was his first trip ever outside the VIP area. Expressing his anger over delay in the construction of service lane due to works going on the drainage system thanks to an early botch up job by the National Building and Construction Corporation, the minister took the officials to task for not finishing the road work on time.

The Road Construction Minister also visited Exhibition Road, Golghar road, Digha Road, Ashiana Mor, Pataliputra Colony, Bari Path, Arya Kumar Road, and Bailey Road while continuing to direct the officials to make changes here and make changes there – a feat earlier accomplished by Nand Kishore Yadav, his predecessor, without much result.
