Patna: April 19, 2008

Five members of a family in Jehanabad perished when their illegal firecracker factory blew up on Saturday morning killing four women and three children while also leaving four others with serious, life-threatening injuries.

According to the eyewitnesses, the explosion in Sheikh Alam Chowk was so strong that it could be heard for several kilometers with hundreds of household sensing the tremor caused by the blast.

While a 12-year old boy died on the spot, two other died while being transported to the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH), and two more succumbed to their burns while being treated at the PMCH.

As reported, the family used to make firecrackers, a family business for generations, on the first floor of the two-storied house when something suddenly went horribly wrong that caused the explosion with such tragic outcome.
