Shramjeevi Express Derails Near Patna; No Major Injury

Patna: April 23, 2008

Passengers of the Rajgir-New Delhi Shramjeevi Express escaped major disaster when more than a dozen bogies of the train derailed near Sohsarai Halt between Rajgir and Bakhtiarpur on Wednesday morning.

As reported, the accident took place around 9:00 am when the engine suddenly jumped the track pulling 14 bogies with.

The driver of the train applied emergency brakes that brought the train to a stop and possibly averting any loss of live, Danapur DRM B. D. Garg said in Patna.

About half a dozen passengers were slightly hurt in the accident. They were treated for minor injuries and released.

The cause of derailment is under investigation.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident, heavily armed robbers looted the passengers of Muzaffarpur-Bhagalpur Intercity Express and got away with cash and valuables over Rs. 5 lakh.

Four members of the police patrolling unit were suspended following the robbery, Railway Superintendent of Police Vimal Kumar said.
