Photo by Shashi UttamWomen of the Rashtriya Mahila Brigade, on Thursday, disrupted railway traffic throughout the state in protest against skyrocketing prices of food and other essential items forcing a number of trains to be left stranded at various stations for hours.

The protestors wielding lathis and political banners started to arrive at Sachivalaya Halt in Patna as early as 5:00 am bringing a complete halt to the movement of trains causing immense inconvenience to the travelers, particularly the children and women.

Engaging in activities bordering criminal intent, the women, assisted by some men, cut the hose of the train and scared away the driver of the Mahananda Express.

More than 150 protestors were arrested and later released.

The state-wide protest was organized to demand for check in rising prices, passing of the women's reservation bill, and arrests of Maharashtrian separatist leaders Bal and Raj Thackeray, the national president of the Mahila Brigade Anita Sinha said adding if situation did not improve in next few days, they will engage in 'chakka jam' that would complete disrupt railway traffic for more than 24 hours.
