A number of students belonging to various political outfits including the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), and the All India Students Federation (AISF), in Patna on Saturday, protested against the 'apathetic' attitude of the Bihar government in view of the ongoing strike by the university and college employees.

Dozens of students backed by the NCP burnt the Chief Minister's effigy at the Kargil Chowk while the LJP supporters protested and burnt the effigy of Nitish Kumar outside the residence of the Patna University Vice Chancellor.

Outside PU office on Ashok Rajpath, the AISF activists burnt Nitish Kumar's effigy saying that by refusing to hold talks with the university employees and trying to bring an end to this long strike, the Chief Minister had established that neither he nor his government cares about the fate of the thousands of students in Bihar.

"Hundreds of lives have been destroyed but the government is not showing any interest in resolving this issue," said an AISF activist.

Announcing its decision to organize a 'stop the train' campaign on August 6, the students with strong support from the opposition parties, said that if the Nitish government does not resolve this issue immediately and amicably, it might as well be the cause of his downfall in the next Assembly elections.
