Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, during a press conference at his weekly Janata Durbar on Monday, expressed his frustration over the ongoing strike by university and college employees saying some union leaders driven by their own political agendas were bent on destroying the future of Bihar students and the strike was a low point in the history of the Bihar universities.

"Some senior employees with affiliations to certain political parties were behind the strike and were not interested in an settling the dispute because the strike was part of a well-orchestrated plan to influence admissions in various colleges and universities," said the Chief Minister.

"I am deeply hurt by their actions that are neither moral nor legal since the university employees are not government employees and are governed by the laws and by-laws set by various universities. In the previous government, these employees were not paid for over 8 months. We regularized their salaries and now they are determined to destroy the future of our young boys and girls," Kumar said.

Describing the strike as 'emotional blackmailing', the Chief Minister ruled out any mediation in the dispute saying it was for the university officials to settle the strike and he had nothing more to say on the issue.

Meanwhile, students with backing from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), Communist Party of India (CPI), and Congress stepped up on their efforts to put pressure on the government to intervene and put an end to the strike that is nearly two months old now.

While the LJP students sat outside B. N. College and 'held classes' on the road, students from other political parties burnt the effigies of the Chief Minister and clashed with the authorities on Ashok Rajpath.
