Students affiliated with the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad in Patna on Tuesday, while trying to scale the wall of the house of Education Minister Hari Narayan Singh during a protest against the ongoing strike of the university employees, clashed with the police who, after failing to persuade them to retreat, resorted to lathi charge during which about half-a-dozen students were injured.

As reported, the security guards deputed outside the house of the minister on Daroga Rai Path first tried to chase the protestors from the premises. When that did not go well, authorities used force to drag the students away from the minister's house further angering the protestors.

The situation got further complicated when the students launched attack on the law-enforcement officials by pelting stones on them leading the police to counter the offensive by resorting to lathi charge.

More than a dozen students were taken into custody while two students had to be treated at the Patna Medical College Hospital and later released.

The minister, while talking to the reporters, said the incident had left him fearing for his life.

"The students are being instigated by certain political parties who wish to create anarchy in the state in an attempt to malign the NDA government. I am afraid these protests are getting out of hand and could affect my personal life," Singh said.

Meanwhile, the ABVP has decided to observe 'Black Day' on Wednesday to protest against what they called 'police brutality against peacefully protesting students'.
