After a lull of nearly ten days, Patna once again was submerged in 1 to 3 feet of water giving nightmare to the citizens as well as the government officials who were hoping the worse was already behind not realizing the monsoon in Bihar is not over until late August or early September.

Starting early Thursday morning, the rain dumped over 80 mm of water in Patna in less than 3 hours once again forcing people living in Rajendra Nagar, Kankarbagh, Dariapur, Machhua Toli, Shastri Nagar, Gardanibagh, Mithapur, Kadam Kuan, Arya Kumar Road, Bakerganj, Thakurbari Road, and other localities to seek higher grounds.

Gusty wind also knocked off several trees and electricity poles in the state capital drowning many areas under darkness. The rain also dumped Gandhi Maidan with water hampering preparation for the August 15 parade. At Patna Junction, water accumulated on railway tracks disrupting traffic for a brief period.

District Magistrate Jitendra Kumar Sinha and Patna Municipal Corporation Commissioner Mihir Kumar Singh, while making the customary rounds to gauge the gravity of the situation, ordered round-the-clock operation of sump houses while also directed officials to bring back boats in Rajendra Nagar and Kankarbagh to ferry those completely cut off from dry areas.

Fire trucks and tractors were commissioned in Sri Krishna Nagar to pump water out of the streets while in Bakerganj, a vehicle turned over in an open drain causing injuries to its occupants.
