NCP Burns CM's Effigy. Photo by Anupam SinghStudents' wing of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in Patna on Sunday torched the effigy of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar at the Income Tax Roundabout following the gunning down of an architect engineer Tauhid Ahmed under Pirbahore police station on Saturday.

Accusing the Chief Minister of outsourcing the administration to goons and criminals, the NCP leaders demanded his resignation and immediate arrests of the killers of Ahmed.

"Nitish Kumar had promised to rid Bihar from crime within three months of coming into power. It has been three years now and there is no sign of reduction in criminal activities in the state, NCP students' wing state president Dinesh Patel said.

The protestors also demanded Rs. 10 lakh in compensation for the victim's family.

Authorities have taken a real estate broker, who was identified as Anil Mishra, into custody for questioning.

Reports said Ahmed was involved in some shady land deal and his murder could be related to that.

Officials are also looking for Pramod Kumar, a builder, in connection with Ahmed's murder, Town DSP Sanjay Singh said.
