Shahabuddin's Bail Plea Rejected

Patna: Aug. 25, 2008

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP from Siwan Mohammed Shahabuddin who is serving life sentence on various charges of murders and kidnapping received yet another setback when the Patna High Court, for the second time, turned down his appeal for bail on Monday.

A dual bench comprising Justice Shivkirti Singh and Justice S. M. Mahfooz, after hearing the arguments from defense lawyer Yaduvansh Giri and Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) Shyameshwar Dayal, rejected Shahabuddin's appeal while asking the court to close the case after finishing the hearing proceeding within a year.

Dayal told the court that it has been proven beyond the shadow of any doubt that Siwan resident Chhotey Lal Gupta was abducted by Shahabuddin's men and placed in a car with the MP already sitting in it.

"That was the last time Gupta was ever seen," the APP said.
