Semi-naked Protest Rally by Unaided Teachers
Patna: Aug. 26, 2008
Unaided teachers of Bihar in Patna on Tuesday, in an unique display of protest against the administration, staged a 'semi-naked' rally by taking off their shirts and walking through the streets of the state capital to press for their demands.
The rally that began at the Gandhi Maidan, ended up at R-Block crossing where the protestors were stopped by the security guards. Because of the unique nature of the demonstration, the traffic came to a standstill at many crossings where hundreds of people gathered to take a look at it.
Union state president Pankaj Kumar Singh said the Nitish administration had gone back on its words and until their demands were met in full, they would continue to build pressure on the government.
"Despite an earlier ruling by the Supreme Court to match their wages with those of regular, tenured teachers, the government has failed to take the first step in that direction," Singh said.
