4 Sleeping Rickshaw Pullers Mowed Down by Speeding Truck

A truck driver, possibly under the influence of alcohol on late Wednesday night, lost control of his vehicle and mowed over 6 people sleeping on the sidewalk near R-Block roundabout in Patna killing four of them on the spot while seriously injuring two others.

An angry crowd chased the driver of the truck and his helper and after catching up with them, gave them a serious beating before handing them over to the Sachivalaya police station, reports said.

The victims were believed to be rickshaw pullers, the police said.

The incident sparked a riot in the area as hundreds of angry men attacked several vehicles and blocked the road with the dead bodies. They also attacked the police with bricks and stones causing some injury to the Kumar Amar Singh, DSP.

With situation getting worse by the minute, officials summoned anti-riot vehicle Vajra and armed police force to handle the crowd.

Situation was finally brought under control after the City Superintendent of Police (SP) Anwar Hussain promised to provide financial relief to the families of the victims.
