Rural Bank Employees Protest

Patna: Aug. 28, 2008

Bank employees under the banner of 'Madhya Bihar Gramin Bank Employees Federation' in Patna on Thursday staged a dharna to protest against what they called the 'high-handed attitude and policy of the bank management' and demanded fair treatment, equitable pay, and timely promotion for all the employees.

Leading the demonstration, the Federation's General Secretary Radhe Shyam Tiwari said the management was increasingly engaging in corrupt practices while ignoring the basic needs of the employees.

"There are employees who have been on the same post for decades but they are not being given the promotion and raise that they have earned by their hard work and dedication. By today's standard, they are working on one-third of the current pay-grade and the transfers are based on the managers' whims and fancies," Tiwari said.

"If our demands are not met soon, we would be forced to step up on our agitation that would completely paralyze the financial sector of the state," he said.
