CBI in Cahoots with the UPA Leaders: Bihar Govt. to the SC

New Delhi: Aug. 28, 2008

The Nitish government in Bihar on Thursday filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court casting doubts on the integrity of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) accusing it of crumbling under the pressure of the UPA government in the disproportionate asset (DA) cases against the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad Yadav and his wife Rabri Devi.

In a joint affidavit, the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Janata Dal (U) leadership apprised the Supreme Court that Yadav and his wife were exonerated in the Rs. 46 lakh DA case by the Special CBI judge Muni Lal Paswan on December 18, 2006.

"The CBI's reluctance in proceeding with the DA case gives the impression that it is acting under pressure from the UPA government of which Lalu Prasad Yadav is a part of," the affidavit read.

The latest political maneuvering from the NDA government in Bihar comes after the defendants, along with the CBI, filed a petition in the Supreme Court asking it to put a lid on any further investigation after the Yadavs were acquitted by the special CBI judge.
