Two Arrested in Tender War Killings in Patna

Patna: February 1, 2008

The police in Patna on Friday arrested two persons in the killings of two innocent by-standers outside the Water Resources office in Patna last Monday even as the police continue to hunt for three other accused including the man who pulled the trigger targeting rival tender mafia gangsters.

The arrested men were identified as Shiv Dayal of Barh and Anil Rai of Pandarak. The three men on the run from the law were identified as Balwant Singh, Ramanuj, and Chhoti Singh.

Ravi Shankar Pandey, the son of a retired IB official Y. N. Pandey, and his friend Abhay Kumar, a student, were gunned down when gangsters associated with the notorious tender mafia opened fire at rival gangsters outside the Water Resources office under Gardanibagh police station in a bid to acquire Rs. 20 crore contracts in Bakhtiarpur.

The driver of the getaway vehicle Pankaj Kumar, who was arrested soon after the killings, led the police to the hideouts of Shiv Dayal and Anil Rai who were taken into the police custody without any incident, Sachivalaya DSP Sridhar Mandal said.
