Lalu Appeals to PM, Home Minister to Intervene in Thackeray Case
Patna: February 5, 2008
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav on Tuesday talked with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Home Minister Shivraj Patil on the Maharashtra issue and urged them to intervene in the matter before it became too explosive that could lead to a deep regional divide in the nation.
Demanding actions against those trying to stir up regional animosity for pure political gains, Yadav drew the attention of the Prime Minister and the Home Minister towards growing violence against Biharis and Uttar Pradesh saying the Central government had an obligation to provide protection to all Indians living in any party of the nation.
Describing Thackeray as 'anti-national', Yadav said people like him belonged behind bars and the party that they belong to deserves to be derecognized by the Election Commission.
Meanwhile, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi also urged the UPA government to step in and prevent situation in Maharashtra from getting any worse.
"This is a very dangerous situation and a poses a great challenge for the Central government. It remains to be seen if Patil can act in an impartial manner," Modi said.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader warned Thackeray to put an end to his hate politics 'unless he is ready for reactions from people from other states'.
