Youths in Patna Resort to Gandhigiri to Promote Goodwill
Patna: February 5, 2008
In an attempt to douse the growing anger towards the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena leader Raj Thackeray following his hateful statements against Bihari festival Chhath and his now infamous abhorrence towards non-Maharashtrians, youths in Patna on Tuesday handed out roses to passengers leaving for Mumbai at Patna Junction and Rajendra Nagar Terminal to promote the message of peace and brotherhood as preached by Gandhi.
"We want you to give these flowers to the Mumbaikars and tell them that we hold no grudge against them," said Rahul Mishra, a member of the All India Students Association (AISA).
The event was jointly organized by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) youth wing, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) activists, and a number of students' organizations.
Wearing the trademark Gandhi caps, students at Rajendra Terminal in Patna handed out roses to hundreds of passengers saying Biharis would not retaliate in a violent manner despite attacks on Biharis in Maharashtra.
In contrast, several students under the banner of RJD burnt the effigy of Thackeray outside Patna University office while yet another group organized similar event outside Patna Junction.
Meanwhile MNS thugs in Nasik threatened to block the entry of any train coming from the north India into Maharashtra if the anti-Raj rhetoric did not subside soon. "North Indian leaders are making a lot of disparaging and incendiary comments against Raj Thackeray and if they did not tone it down immediately, we will not allow trains coming from Bihar, Jharkhand, and UP to enter Maharashtra, said an MNS activist.
