Mauritius' Former PM's Statue Installed in Patna
Patna: February 7, 2008
Just days before the arrival of Mauritius Prime Minister Naveenchandra Ramgoolaam in Patna, a life-size statue of the nation's first Prime Minister and the Father of the Nation Sir Seewoosagar Ramgoolam was installed on Thursday at the Gandhi Maidan-Exhibition Road intersection.
The Prime Minister of Mauritius is arriving in Patna on February 18 when he would unveil the statue of his father whose ancestors, like many other Mauritians, hailed from Bihar.
Ramgoolam is also scheduled to visit his ancestral village of Harigaon in Bhojpur district.
Earlier last month Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and other officials visited the village to ensure road conditions were good for the Mauritius PM's visit which is seen as the beginning of a new era of political and cultural relationship between the people of Bihar and Mauritius.
