Modi Assures Industrialists of Better Days Ahead
Patna: February 7, 2008
Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, while attending a meeting of the Bihar Industries Association in Patna on Thursday, said that the government was sympathetic to the needs of the industrialists including their concerns for non-stop supply of electricity, excise tax, and Value Added Tax (VAT) that greatly affects all businessmen in the state.
Association president K. P. Jhunjhunwala, while admitting many new changes had taken place under the current NDA rule, the state still was a long way from achieving economic and industrial prosperity.
"Without a steady supply of power, it is nearly impossible to run any industry in Bihar. Relaxation in the luxury tax on tourism industry is yet another area that the government should consider its policies," Jhunjhunwala said.
Modi, later while inaugurating the renovation work at the Premchand Rangshala, said that the government was spending nearly Rs. 300 crore for urban development in the state including restoration of cultural centers like Ravindra Bhawan, Bhartiya Nritya Kala Mandir, Patna Museum, and Golghar.
For the beautification of Bhartiya Nritya Kala Mandir, film star Hema Malini has donated a sum of Rs. 25 lakh while the state would beart the rest of the expenses, Modi said.
In the first stage of the renovation, the Premchand Rangshala would add a new auditorium, an open plaza, an open-air theater, a dormitory for the students, and a rehearsal hall to its list of facilities at the cost of Rs. 4.81 crore.
Art and Culture Minister Janardan Singh Sigriwal and BJP legislator Arun Kumar Sinha was also present on the occasion.
