City Gears for Saraswati Puja; Sales Less than Satisfactory

Patna: February 10, 2008

People in Patna on Sunday rushed to various shopping places to prepare for Saraswati Puja that falls on Monday as private organizers gave the last minute touch to the Puja pandals decorating them with flowers and colorful fabric.

Heavy rush of shoppers was seen in Kadam Kuan, Station Road, Dak Bungalow Road, Boring Road, and Machhua Toli where a large number of students and women were seen doing most of the purchasing for the festival that honors the Goddess of knowledge and wisdom.

Idols of Saraswati were already put in place at most of the pandals though devotees were not allowed to get a glimpse of them until the door opens for public viewing on early Monday morning.

Shop-owners, however, complained of less than satisfactory sales blaming rising prices of all items associated with the festival.

As always, all the schools in Patna were being given a makeover to reflect the mood of the event as students prepared to take a day off from studies and pray to the Goddess of knowledge instead.
