Two Policemen Suspended in Nalanda Assault on CM Case
Rajgir: February 12, 2008
The state administration on Tuesday, in the wake of the assault on Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in Nalanda district last Friday, suspended two police officials in Rajgir for lapse in security arrangements and failing to control the crowd despite the presence of former President Dr. A. P. J. Kalam.
The two cops were identified as Pramod Rai, the officer-in-charge, and G. N. Rai, a police inspector, Patna IG Rajyawardhan Sharma said.
"There was a serious lapse in intelligence and the local authorities failed to inform the police headquarters in Patna about the level of anger in Pilkhi village over acquisition of lands for the purpose of construction of Nalanda International University in the area," Sharma said.
The suspension came a day after Bihar Principal Home Secretary Afzal Amanullah visited Pilkhi and probe the incident in which the Chief Minister was hurt when miscreants pelted him with stones on February 8.
Kumar went through a check up at a Patna hospital and released.
More suspensions and firing are expected to come in next few days, sources said.
