Paswan Takes a Shot at Mayawati
Patna: February 13, 2008
Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) president and Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan on Wednesday in Patna fired salvo at the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Mayawati saying she insulted the great tradition of Patna's Gandhi Maidan by landing her helicopter in the field during her last trip to the state capital.
"Dozens of prominent politicians including all Prime Ministers of India have addressed at the Gandhi Maidan over a period of several years. No one ever felt the need to land his or her helicopter in the Gandhi Maidan in spite of threat to their lives as well but by landing her helicopter in the state's most historical public meeting place, Mayawati was showing off her clout and a sense of superiority," Paswan said.
Calling her address in Patna as a 'big flop', Paswan who sees Mayawati as an intruder who is trying to break into his vote bank by posing as the messiah of the dalits, said her gimmicks were not going to work in Bihar like it did in Uttar Pradesh.
"People of Uttar Pradesh were tired of Mulayam Singh Yadav and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress had nothing new to offer to the people resulting in the dramatic turn in Mayawati's political fortune. However, by the time the country is ready for the Parliamentary elections, she would hardly be a force to reckon with," the LJP chief said.
